Malton Points Program Version 1.1 Release 040526 (May 26, 2004) Copyright 2004 Malton Custom Software Company custom.malton.org contact: moesingh@rogers.com Readme file changed on August 8, 2004. Steps in installation: You must run the serverSetup to set up the Server. Please ensure that only the users can have permission to view and edit the files at the server location (change the permissions of the server location). If a server is already installed, run the clientSetup on each workstation. Now, in the client directory, run setup.jar and specify the location of the server. You may now run using the icon created during setup. Note: The admin login is ALWAYS "admin", and the initial password is also "admin" This is not included in the manual for security reasons. You can change the admin password after the first login. The following Applications will be needed for the release to run: The latest version of Sun Java Adobe Acrobat Reader (or any other pdf reader) These apps are located under the Apps Directory. A common error that may occur is that the JAR file gets opened by an application such as WinRAR or WinACE. If this is the case, you must reset the file association for the JAR filetype. Please contact the administrator to do this. (A common solution is to re-install java). Step by Step Installation and Initial Setup Instructions!! ---------------------------------------------------------- Run the setupServer file and setup the server on a drive location that is accessible by all computers. Remember to note the server location (e.g. "U:\server"). If you have a license setup file, you may run it now at the server location to remove the program limitations. If not, once you get the license installation file, you only need to run it once on any computer where the server is accessible. Run the setupClient on all computers that will be running the program. Once complete, a prompt will appear asking for the server location. Enter the location you noted above. Run the client. The default initial admin login is "admin" and password is also "admin". It is recommended that this password be changed immediately in admin mode. Add some groups: To do this, enter admin mode, select "add/remove users/groups," and click "perform action." Now, enter the groups one by one. It is recommended that you enter a year following the group name, e.g. "Floor hockey 04." You must also enter details such as total hours to achieve max points, min points, duration (semester, etc.), and comments, etc. as well as a username and password for each group. Now add students. You may add them one by one using "add/remove student" and entering their details, or enter a list of students using "parse student list." With parse student list, you must supply a list of student names and the order that their first, last, and id appear. You must also indicate the separator (e.g. comma, semi-colon, etc. ) and if you want to remove all not on this list, or merge the students in the list to the master list. That's it, you may begin using the program now! Use the program as explained in the manual. Basically, add/remove students from groups using edit mode, and view progress in view mode. Use admin mode to hand out awards, add new students, add new groups, etc. Directory files: Apps - contains all the files required to run program (java, etc.) (cd version only) clientSetup - the setup file to install into workstations serverSetup - the setup file to install the initial server Please refer to readme.txt files located in Apps and source directory for further information.
